A note from our founder

“Our sport psychology practice was born out of my experience helping athletes at NCAA institutions like Michigan, Missouri, and Vanderbilt, as well as pro athletes in the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB. We understand the importance of having mentally strong athletes and team leaders who can foster cohesive teams that trust each other to win in and out of sport.

Whether it’s enhancing individual performance, building a strong team culture, or strengthening team dynamics, our goal is to empower your athletes to reach their full potential and perform at their best, both mentally and physically.”

Testimonials

WHSP gave my team mental tools they can use daily

“WHSP shared multiple lessons with my team that included a mix of classroom style presentations and group discussions plus hands-on activities that were geared specifically for baseball and my team. All the activities and discussions were very helpful in giving my team mental tools they can use not just in baseball but in any sport. I highly recommend WHSP for anyone looking to get an extra edge in their sport!”

— Carter, Baseball Coach

Our team has drastically improved after working with WHSP

“Several of our players have worked with WHSP over the last few years and the improvements in those players’ mental game, and overall performance, is obvious. WHSP does a great job teaching our athletes what a winning mindset looks like as well as how to be flexible competing under pressure and circumstances out of their control.”

— Kortney Dalrymple, Hyden Beach Academy

6 Foundational Approaches College Athletic Departments Should Consider When Fulfilling the NCAA’s Mental Health Best Practices

At White House Sport Psychology, we’re all about helping athletes feel their best and perform at their peak. With the NCAA’s new mental health requirements expanding to include all member institutions, college athletic departments have a unique opportunity to set a firm foundation for supporting their athletes while complying with the updated mental health best practices.

Why Athletic Directors, Coaches, and Staff Need to Look Beyond the Campus Counseling Center When it Comes to Sport Psychology and Mental Health For Athletes

Why Athletic Directors, Coaches, and Staff Need to Look Beyond the Campus Counseling Center When it Comes to Sport Psychology and Mental Health For Athletes

NCAA member institutions have been trying to find creative solutions to their student-athletes’ mental health and performance needs for several years. New NCAA legislation mandates that colleges and universities provide accessible and appropriate resources.

Why Specialized Expertise Matters in Sport Psychology

Why Specialized Expertise Matters in Sport Psychology

Imagine needing surgery and turning to your primary care physician. While they possess general medical knowledge, they lack the specialized training and experience required for surgical procedures.

Similarly, just because your neighbor is married doesn’t mean they’re qualified to offer marriage advice. And, while a football coach and a tennis coach both coach, you wouldn’t ask a football coach to lead a tennis practice or a tennis coach to manage a football team.

Everything starts with a simple conversation

We help your athletes develop a winning mindset, regain their mental edge after injury, and take their game to the next level. At the organizational level, we help specific teams, athletic departments, and professional organizations solidify the cultures and climates that boost team cohesion, optimize performance, and maximize results.

What sports do you work with?

At WHSP we work with athletes competing in ALL sports including:

  • Team sports
      • Football, Baseball, Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, Softball, Volleyball, Lacrosse, Field Hockey, etc.
  • Individual sports
      • Tennis, Golf, Gymnastics, Diving, Figure Skating, Swimming, Running/CC/T&F, Triathlon, Ski/Snowboard, Mixed Martial Arts, etc.
  • Other sports
      • X-Games/Extreme sports, CrossFit Games, Equestrian, Climbing, Free Diving, Jockey/Horse racing, etc.
  • We also work with adaptive athletes and teams competing in sports adapted and designed for their abilities.

Do you offer traditional mental health services, too?

Yes, we do. Some common topics we address with our clients include anxiety, depression, grief, loss, ADHD, family relationships, trauma, abuse, OCD, eating disorders, and more.

How long are team or group sessions?

Team or group sessions for your organization will vary based on your needs and the time available. Most sessions are 30-60 minutes long but some are as short at 15 minutes or as long as multiple hours. Contact us directly to discuss your needs so we can customize a group session for you.

Can you travel to work with my team or organization?

Yes! We enjoy visiting with teams at their facilities and are happy to travel to your specific location. Contact us to learn more and discuss logistics.

Can you assist coaches and front office personnel?

Yes! Coaches and other team personnel engage in their own form of performance and face their own challenges that require support from a trained sport psychologist. We are happy to assist all members of the organization with their unique needs.

Can you help with player evaluations and development?

Yes! We have access to a variety of assessments that help organizations understand their current athletes as well as those they wish to acquire. These evaluations help organizations make more informed decisions as well as enhance the development of their current athletes.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes! Although we encourage in-person sessions, we recognize the challenges of a busy schedule (and the fact that some athletes live outside of middle Tennessee). That’s why we meet with clients virtually on an as-needed basis.

Do you help injured athletes?

Yes, the mental side of injury, surgery, and long-term rehab is one of our specialties. We help injured athletes improve their mind-body connection and build the mental tools and techniques they need to recover better, faster, and feel more prepared to return to their sport.

Do you offer sessions for support staff, parents, or other people connected to the team?

Yes! There is a lot of value in meeting with these groups and sharing insight into how they can be the best ‘team behind the team.’ In these types of sessions we provide guidance related to the things a staff member or parent can say or do when supporting their athletes and teams.
