You treat the body. But what happens when the body is ready and the mind isn’t?
Do you find your athletes
- Physically capable of returning to sport but hindered by fear of re-injury and other mental hurdles?
- Struggling with anxiety, depression, or loss of identity during a long recovery?
- Stalling in rehab not because of the injury, but because of isolation, boredom, and/or motivation issues?
In this webinar, we’ll give you practical, evidence-based insights to address the psychological dimensions of injury recovery — so you can support the whole athlete, not just the physical part.
Here’s a brief look at what we’ll cover:
- Recognize the psychological impact of injury and explain it clearly to athletes, families, and colleagues
- Know when and how to refer to a sport psychology or mental health professional—and feel confident doing it
- How to coordinate with sport psychology professionals to assess an athlete’s psychological readiness to return to sport
and more…

What will I be able to do differently after taking this course?
By the end of this course, you will be able to: recognize and explain the psychological impact of injury to athletes, families, and colleagues; confidently determine when and how to refer an injured athlete to a sport psychology or mental health professional; understand the full picture of pain, including its structural, emotional, hormonal, immune, and nervous system components; use empirically validated tools to measure an athlete’s psychological readiness to return to sport; and demonstrate at least one technique to promote Sport Injury Related Growth (SIRG).
Is this course relevant to ATs working outside of traditional sport settings?
Absolutely. While the course uses athletic and sport-specific examples, the knowledge and skills taught — psychological recovery, pain science, readiness to return to activity, and referral skills — are directly applicable to clinical, industrial, performing arts, and military settings. The course content is designed to translate across the full spectrum of athletic training practice.

The quiz assesses your understanding of key concepts including terminology, psychological responses to injury, referral criteria, pain components, and psychometric return-to-sport tools. You will receive your quiz results immediately upon completion. Passing the quiz is required to receive your certificate of completion and CEU credit.
